Have you ever been in a situation where things seem to be going well and suddenly something happens and you know the Lord is telling you to stop, take a few steps back, review your plans, review what you’ve already done, and most importantly, review your motivations.
When it happens suddenly, unexpectedly, it is very much like a frantic call of “Whoa – back up!” A call to avoid danger, a call to maintain safety.
Sometimes that happens in our walk with the Lord. As we journey on with Him, sometimes, without realizing it, we become more focused on our plans, on our visions, on our dreams, and not God’s. Even if they are tiny little steps, eventually they create a turn on the pathway, and we find ourselves lost somewhere far from where God wants us.
So, if you get that call, if the Holy Spirit moves in your heart and mind, to just take a step back and weigh what has been done, what is being planned, and where your heart lies in being obedient to the call God has for you, don’t let it permanently stop you. It doesn’t mean God has stopped loving you. On the contrary, it is proof of the extent of His love.
He has given us a light on the pathway, and that light is His Word. If we don’t keep diligent in reading and learning the scripture from the Holy Bible, then the very light we need to keep our steps in line with His Will for our lives diminishes and the wrong steps can begin.
Your word is a lamp to my feet
and a light to my path.
I have sworn an oath and confirmed it,
to keep your righteous rules.
I am severely afflicted;
give me life, O Lord, according to your word!
Accept my freewill offerings of praise, O Lord,
and teach me your rules.
I hold my life in my hand continually,
but I do not forget your law.
The wicked have laid a snare for me,
but I do not stray from your precepts. – Psalm 119:105-110
